Not worthy of Nobel Peace Prize, says PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: Responding to calls for nomination of Nobel Peace Prize, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that he is not worthy of this prize.The prime minister tweeted: “The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent”. A resolution was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat last week calling for award of Nobel Peace Prize to the prime minister for his proactive role in reducing recent tension between Pakistan and India.The resolution submitted by Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain stated that Imran Khan played a sagacious role in reducing recent tension between Pakistan and India.Pakistan freed the Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on Friday -- whose MiG fighter was shot down on February 27 as he chased Pakistani jets over Azad Kashmir.Warmongering by Indian leadership had brought the two nuclear weapon states on the brink of war, it said adding that the aggressive attitude of Indian leadership endangered the lives of tens of millions of people on both sides of the border.The resolution said that the situation was averted due to proactive and deft handling of the situation by Prime Minister Imran Khan.The resolution said that in view of his contribution towards peace in the region, Prime Minister Imran Khan may be given Nobel Peace Prize.Online petitionsHundreds of thousands of people have also signed an online petitions calling for PM Imran Khan to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.The hashtag #NobelPeaceForImranKhan began trending on Twitter on Thursday after Khan unexpectedly announced that the captured pilot would be released as a "peace gesture".Two similarly-worded campaigns on the change.org platform launched by users in the UK and Pakistan called for Imran Khan to be nominated for next year´s prize "for his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts".They have gained more than 240,000 and 60,000 digital signatures respectively till Saturday.
