ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa on Friday said that the Supreme Court had disposed of 26,000 cases during last one year.The chief justice expressed this while hearing a case in the apex court.He said that as many as 1.9 million cases were pending in the courts due to shortage of judges.He observed that the pending cases could be disposed of in one or two years if 25 percent vacant posts of judges be filled.There are only 3,000 judges for the population of 220 million and dependency increased to 1.9 million, he added.Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa remarked that judiciary disposed of 3.1 million cases during last one year.The Supreme Court of Pakistan has disposed of 26,000 cases during last one year while the Supreme Court of United States of America had disposed of only 80 to 90 case for the same period, he added.He said that our judges were trying their best to dispose of pending cases despite shortage of judges.
