ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s position would have been different if the country had timely implemented the National Action Plan (NAP), said Pakistan Peopel’s Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari as Islamabad launched crackdown against banned outfits."With timely NAP implementation, India wouldn’t have any basis for accusations against Pakistan and Pakistan would have evidence to present about the steps taken by the country against extremism," Bilawal said in an interview with BBC Urdu.India had accused a Pakistan based group of carrying out attacks in Occupied Kashmir that killed over 40 paramilitary soldiers last month, an allegation Islamabad denies.Calling extremist elements enemies of Pakistan, the government, however, said the latest crackdown against proscribed organizations is not the result of any pressure.Bilawal expressed hope that the crackdown would be carried out in true sense and the implementation on National Action Plan would be followed with perseverance . He called for making the the Parliamentary Committee on National Security fully functional for check and balance on the implementation of NAP.The PPP chairman, however, a bit sceptical of the PTI government which he accused of contesting the last year election with cooperation from banned outfits. “If they are serious, they will have to remove the cabinet members who support such organisations," said the PPP chairman. He also expressed the hope that Prime Minister Imran Khan would keep his words and confront extremist elements.
