PM Imran Khan shares 'startling' figures of govt owned land/buildings

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday shared that the worth of 90% of state-owned land in KP, Punjab and federal areas and the rest houses/official residences built on this land is 'startling'.In a series of tweets, the prime minister said “the figures are startling: 34,459 kanals are rural and 17,035 kanals are urban. Just the urban land with buildings is worth over Rs.300 billion!”."So a country that has to borrow money to pay interest on its loans (burdening our future generations) - & daily interest payment is Rs 5 b - is sitting on huge amounts of dead capital (just 90% of urban holdings is worth Rs 300b) in the form of this govt-owned land with buildings," he further added. The PM has earlier stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government would review the policy regarding such assets and under these guidelines the government announced to auction the luxury cars parked at the PM House. In his maiden speech to the nation he stated: there were 524 persons to serve the prime minister at the 1100-Kanal PM House, coupled with 80 cars, including 33 bulletproof ones having price of Rs 50 million each, besides helicopters and an aeroplane".He also mentioned the huge and luxurious state buildings like governor houses, CM houses, rest houses, residences of secretaries, commissioners, DCs etc.“At one hand the nation was burdened with debt and on the other, we have the elite. This system was created by the British during the colonial era to rule the masses, but even after independence the same practice was being followed,” Imran Khan remarked.
